Afro-Brazil: A Visual History is a digital archive dedicated to communicating Afro-Brazilian history through visual and material culture. The archive’s collection is constituted of prints, paintings, and other forms of material and visual culture that center the experiences, presences, and expressions of Afro-Brazilian people throughout sixteenth to nineteenth century Brazil. Collection Development Policy

This collection is compromised of digitized items in the public domain pertaining to Afro-Brazilian history from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries. Items range from portraits, prints, ephemera, and other forms of visual and material culture.

Afro-Brazil: A Visual History aims to maintain this database that is not only accessible to a vast audience but is a project developed by wider communities within and outside of archival and academic professions. Therefore, the archive accepts donations to develop the materials available within the archive as well as suggestions on the direction and scope of the archive.
